At Diver, we worked with the team at Backland Expedition Gear to re-imagine their visual identity. The goal was to introduce new graphic systems, typography, and colour without losing sight of their existing brand, but making it feel more premium. We developed a strong visual language that was inspired by the Backland products. We also made the strategic decision to shorten Backland Expedition Gear to just "Backland," which we feel gives the brand a more premium feel and improves the legibility within the lockups. We also created a sub-brand called the "Backland Research Dept." that will be used as a line of merch and given to brand ambassadors.

The mark, a sunrise/sunset with a hidden “WWW” in its rays, captures the balance of simplicity and discovery at the heart of the brand. James approached me to create a rustic and luxurious feeling brand for the property, which will eventually boast a lodge and rental cabins. The property will be open to guests, and host author retreats once complete. The goal was to make this feel like an upscale destination experience while still having rustic elements that speak to family history.

The goal was to create a vibrant, fun-loving brand that would stand out in a line of boring vending machines. The brand personality shines through in the copywriting and is hard to miss with the large type and loud colour palette. If hilarious health-nut dads had a hive mind, they would manifest the Good Goods.
